Kitchen tours and breakfast

Step 1 in earning the cooking badge is to tour a kitchen. If you're new to cooking, it's a good idea to get an adult to show you around the kitchen where you'll be cooking, point out where all the basics are, and go over food and kitchen safety and hygiene. Even if you've already done a lot of cooking, it helps to have an adult show you where everything is for the next recipe you plan to make. For this badge, see if you can locate:

- a saucepan
- a casserole dish
- a frying pan
- measuring spoons
- measuring cups
- a baking sheet
- a whisk
- a cheese grater
- an oven mitt

If you want to check out a different kind of cooking space, see if you can find a way to tour a restaurant or cafeteria kitchen!

Once you're familiar with the tools you'll need and the space you'll be working in, it's on to step 2: breakfast. You can make easy weekday breakfasts, an egg dish, or a more involved weekend breakfast dish. Some ideas:

- yogurt parfaits, with fruit or granola
- toast, English muffins, or bagels with a spread, and maybe some fruit on top
- cinnamon toast

- scrambled eggs
- fried eggs
- boiled eggs

- French toast
- pancakes
- muffins

Your Girl Scout binder has more suggestions and information, including directions for scrambled and sunny-side-up eggs, and a recipe for a breakfast burrito. If you're already a breakfast pro, push yourself to try something a little more challenging than what you've made before!

Check back in to let us all know how your kitchen tour went and what you made for breakfast!
